Dette høres meget fornemt ut, og man forledes gjerne "by association" til å tro at Simon Buxton er en fremragende antropolog. Slik er det neppe. For hva kreves for å bli en slik Fellow? Svært lite, både du og jeg vil sikkert slippe igjennom nåløyet. Det er en forening for enhver som er interessert i antropologi, man betaler en årskontingent og får abonnement på et tidsskrift og noen fordeler til. Man må riktignok
søke hvis man vil bli Fellow (i motsetning til Member - vanlig medlem), men her er kriteriene:

Many people from all over the world are affiliated to the RAI. We welcome anyone with an interest in the subject, whether working in an academic institution or not. Our affiliates include academic specialists, students, those working in fields where anthropology has practical applications, and those whose interest is captured by the subject matter of anthropology. The membership structure has been designed as far as possible to suit all interest groups. The RAI is constantly looking for ways of improving its structure and services, and welcomes all suggestions.

CATEGORIES OF AFFILIATION TO THE RAI
• Individuals can join the RAI as Fellows, Members or Student Associates.
FELLOWSHIP OF THE RAI
• Fellowship is intended for those who have an academic or professional engagement with the social sciences, but serious amateurs are warmly welcomed. Fellows are elected by the Council of the RAI.

All those applying to become Fellows for the first time in any category must be elected by the Council of the RAI. For details of the procedure, click here. Applications for first-time Fellowship must be made via the application form (obtainable from the Membership Manager) and supported by an RAI Fellow or other person of standing.
Jeg vil hevde at Simon Buxton forsøker å bløffe seg til akademisk troverdighet ved å henvise til noe som viser seg å være ganske så ordinært. Hvilken glad amatør klarer ikke å skaffe seg en aktverdig referanse, om så kreves?
